Our partners have found that jobs which are typically sent overseas can stay in the U.S.  This not only keeps jobs in the U.S., but also lowers transportation costs and time spent in transport.  PIECP participation is an effective way to curb idleness among an ever-increasing prison population and a cost-effective means of providing offenders with marketable job skills.  Additionally, taxpayers and the general public benefit from PIECP through reductions in incarceration costs, contributions to the Victims of Violent Crime Compensation Fund and deductions for federal, state, and local tax.  Offenders are paid the prevailing wage for the work done in the locality of the correctional facility.
